  About Naya Raipur

The State of Chhattisgarh was carved out of erstwhile Madhya Pradesh on 1st November, 2000 in deference to its distinctive historical social background and natural resources. Raipur, the largest city of the State was named its Capital. Raipur has for many decades been a vibrant market place in central India. Yet, with an already burdened civic infrastructure, it was ill-equipped to take on its newfound role as the administrative capital of a rapidly growing state.

With virtually no government land available in Raipur city area, all plans for building new offices for state and central government had to be put on hold. Public sector organizations and banks as well as private industrial and service organizations were finding it difficult to locate their new offices or facilities. Civic amenities too continued to deteriorate. Meanwhile the economy of the new state had also started booming, the new housing and commercial development in and around the city of Raipur rapidly began. As a result, the land prices in and around Raipur was on the rise while the burden on the infrastructure increased manifold. The State Government took many initiatives to upgrade the existing infrastructure to the extent it was possible. It was at this point of time that the State Government decided to develop a New City named "Naya Raipur" in the close proximity to the existing Mana Airport Raipur.

Naya Raipur is being developed by Naya Raipur Development Authority (NRDA), a special area development authority constituted by State Government under the provisions of the CG Town and Country Planning Act, 1973. The vision for the new city consists of ensuring high quality of life through sustainable growth by judicious infrastructure, economic, social and technical development of the city.

Naya Raipur is being developed for 5.6 lakh population by the end of year 2031. In addition to the access through roads by way of NH 6 and NH 43, Naya Raipur is located on the Mumbai – Howrah railway line and is also in close proximity to the existing airport of Raipur city. These regional linkages make Naya Raipur suitable for development of new economic activities in addition to shifting of administrative functions from Raipur. These factors could provide an impetus to the population flow to Naya Raipur.
